The Big Cat
62Siberian tigers are the largest cats in the world. They live primarily in eastern Russia's birch forests, though some exist in China and North Korea. There are an estimated 400 to 500 siberian tigers living in the wild. The recent studies suggest that these numbers are stable.
Tigers live alone and aggressively scent-mark large territories to keep their rivals away. They are powerful hunters that travel many miles to find prey, such as elk and wild boar, on coats as camouflage and hunt by stealth. No two have exactly the same stripes. They lie in wait and creep close enough to attack their victims with a quick spring and a fatal pounce. A hungry tiger can eat as much as 60 pounds (27.2 kilograms) in one night.
Females give birth to litters of two to six cubs, which they raise with little or no help from the male. cubs cannot hunt untill they are 18 months old. They are remain with their mothers for two or three years, when they disperse to find their own territory.
Javanese and Sumatran Tiger. Javanese tigers are living in Java. They are stated extinct at about 1880s. Javanese tigers are smaller comparing to other tigers. male has 100-140 kg in weight and about 2.43 m in length. Female weigh is lighter, about 75-115 kg and shorter than male.
Sumatran Tigers height 76 cm at shoulder, weight 200-450 lbs. Body lenght of 84-106 cm. The fur on the upper parts of its body ranges from orange to reddish - brown, making it darker in color than other tigers. The Sumatran tiger is the smallest tiger subspecies. They inhabit only the small island of Sumatra, where there small size makes it easy for them to move in the dense of tropical jungle.
Although not the most endangered of the tigers, the Sumatran's numbers have bean greatly reduced in recent years. there are only 650 of these tigers that remain in the wild today.

Javanese tigers still live in the easternmost part of Java island. There is a wild life conservation there called Meru betiri. But their number is no more than 5.
